Farming

We need to support farming in Sussex that works with nature.

The Sussex chalk downlands were traditionally grazed by Southdown sheep and carpeted with wildflowers attracting butterflies. The Sussex Weald typically has pastoral or mixed farming in small, irregular fields, with boundaries often little changed since medieval times. Supporting farming that keeps or reinstates landscapes with space for wildlife, provides clean water and stores carbon will benefit people, wildlife and the planet.

What better sight than clouds of blue and marbled white butterflies on the downlands and better sound than songbirds!
