13 April, 10.30am: Around Arlington Reservoir – a morning walk

2nd March 2025

Guided Walks with Dr Geoffrey Mead

Geoffrey has been leading walks with us for four years and we have enjoyed his amazing knowledge of the Sussex landscape, his stories about past communities and some notable residents too!  We have arranged 4 walks this year and invite you to come along and discover more hidden Sussex gems.

Location: we meet at Arlington Reservoir car park (pay & display), Woodside, Station Rd, Berwick, BN26 6TF
Date: Sunday, 13th April
Time: 10.30am – 1.30pm (approx.)

Ticket Prices: Members £10, Non-Members £15 (maximum 15 on each walk)

Important note: Our walks usually take 2.5 – 3 hours over variable terrain and are not gentle ambles.  To enjoy the walks, you need to be able to sustain a reasonable pace, often over uneven ground (sometimes negotiating stiles), and be comfortable walking up and down slopes and hills.   The ground can be muddy and slippery too.  You must be very firm on your feet and able to walk for 3 hours.  We do pause along the way and stop for a 15-minute break, often to enjoy a particularly stunning view, to rest and have a snack and a chat.  Sturdy shoes/boots suitable for walking over varying ground conditions are essential.

Join our friendly bunch of walkers to explore around Arlington Reservoir which  sits in a large meander of the Cuckmere river with abundant bird life all about. The walk takes us through the quiet low-lying landscape of the Weald Clay, through Arlington churchyard and its surrounding farmland. Expect springtime mud!
