Climate emergency

Climate protestors holding up banners

Climate change is the greatest environmental and economic threat facing our countryside and the planet.

The climate emergency is already changing habitats in Sussex, threatening wildlife; bringing new plant diseases; and causing loss of soil fertility. More extreme weather is affecting food supplies and our landscape, as well as increasing the risk of flooding or drought. Sea level rises will cause flooding and more erosion along the Sussex coast.

We need to reduce greenhouse gases by reducing energy demand and increasing sustainable transport. We must also adopt new approaches to water and land management; including planting more trees and hedgerows to soak up carbon dioxide.
